About the event
NASA India in collaboration with aabhat hunarshala presents the Vernacular Building Program initiated under the Summer Winter School Program. This program is aimed at understanding the traditional building practices of the Banni region in Kutch and other vernacular techniques having roots in the culture, traditions, and way of living of the indigenous communities in Banni, Kutch. The intent is to motivate the students and young professionals to understand and learn about the communities, working with them and the traditional knowledge systems embedded in their cultures.
Nasa India and Aabhat would ‘come together’ for a social cause and support this primary school based in a village called Berdo in Banni to build/ complete a structure in the school campus which would be used for various activities like arts & crafts, board games, reading, etc. like a multifunctional space.
The program will be conducted in Kutch (Gujarat) for 4 days spread out from the 31st January - 3rd February 2023 . The workshop would be open to 20 participants based on form selection from whoever is interested and ready to have an experience of staying in a remote village of Banni, kutch with minimal or very basic facilities and common toilets in the outside area along with local food and culture experience
This program will focus on publishing a small booklet and a short documentary film with all the participants' efforts. During the workshop, we will focus on design exercises, group work, analyzing a problem, and various hands-on activities.
