About the event

NASA India presents the Himalayan Architecture & Craftsmanship Workshop in collaboration with @live_north ; initiated under the Summer Winter School Program. The program will be conducted by Ar. Rahul Bhushan who is the founder of NORTH - a centre for Himalayan Craftsmanship and design innovation, Naggar, Himachal. ( www.thenorth.in )


The objective of the workshop is to understand the Himalayan architectural form of Kathkuni, Dhajji Dewari and other vernacular techniques ; with its influence from the life and culture of Himachal. The program will let you dive deep into the Himachali craft practices through a guided crafts documentation. It will focus on demonstrating the processes, materials and tools involved along with hands-on artisan interactions, village visits and a look into their workspaces.


Location- Naggar (Himachal Pradesh) at NORTH campus.

The total program is divided into three - 5 day workshops. First from 5th - 9th Dec, second from the 10th to 14th Dec & third from 21st - 25th Dec 2022 by NORTH. You may select the preferred date slot as per your feasibility. (Once the seats for particular dates are filled one cannot apply for the same).

The program would be open to 20 per workshop on a first come first serve basis.


Every workshop will focus on publishing a one-of-a-kind research booklet with all the students. This is an immersive program that will take you through various hands-on activities, village excursions, material explorations, in-depth discussion sessions with karigars and community interactions for craft documentation of Himalayan region. In the session, we will focus on analysis, designing, problem-solving, and a hands-on session.


Note- The travel charges have to be borne by the student from both sides upon intimation of successful candidature. Food and accommodation will be arranged at the cost if asked prior. The certificates of the following program would be issued once the candidates fulfill to curate the research booklet talked about above.
